Getting Married? Congrats! Now Time to Think about a Prenuptial Agreement?
In this day and age many of us are getting married for the second, third, fourth and maybe more times. Generally family law attorneys draft Prenuptial Agreements to plan for divore and death. Lately, I have been consulted on a more regular basis by family law attorneys for assistance on the estate planning and “death” side of the Prenuptial Agreement. It is extrememly important that, if you are a planner, to review your client’s Prenuptial Agreement and be sure that the provisions of your clients’ documents reflect the provisions of the Prenuptial Agreement. If you are hiring an attorney, then be sure that the attorney drafting the Prenuptial Agreement not only understands the “divorce” provisions but also the estate planning and “death” provisions. If not, hire a planner to work with the family law attorney.
